Take Charge of your Website

Take Charge of your Website: So I am curious as to how many of you WAHM’s have paid a designer to build you a stunning looking website only to find yourself not able to really use the site once you have launched? Do you have to pay someone for every little change or addition that you want to make your website?
Frustrating isn’t it!
I am urging you to take more control over your website and ultimately your business. There is nothing like having an idea and being able to implement it immediately on your website and not having to ask a soul about it. I tell you it is really quite liberatingĀ to not be at the mercy of someone else all the time.
So justĀ have a think about this topic for a minute. Are you in control of your website or is it in control of you?

Kylie, it’s about being informed. Many of us (including myself) at one stage or another have jumped in feet first without being informed and then realised that we’re sinking. Based on my experience many people as they get older become afraid of the computer and the software on it, but as I tell others, “you control it, it doesn’t control you”. Don’t rely on the technical books because they are not very friendly. Spend the money attending a workshop or having someone come and sit with you one-on-one and show you what you need to know.

Oh this rings my angry bells.
It is so easy to be seduced by the good looking site. I booked my last designer and 9 months later still had nothing to show for it except a designer who was dirty on me for pulling the plug. She is excellent at reproducing the sites she has done before but can’t go beyond that. Oh, the threats! The other site I did have completed was lovely but there has been no contact since then despite begging and pleading on my behalf when things went wrong. Oh yes, I forgot, I have paid the account. End of transaction! And I still can’t get a meta tag on the site.
Then I found http://www.panopticonsulting.com.au/ which does such good work that he still has no site of his own. He is so busy with small and micro business, building sites that they can manage totally on their own and for such minimal cost that he can’t even do his own.
Needless to say, my new site is only a few weeks away and I can’t wait.

My website is definitely in control of me. I can totally relate to this one as well. I arranged to get a new site done so I would be more in control this time round and not rely on other people but it is 5 months late with no end date in sight. So by trying to work smarter I ended up shooting myself in the foot even more!

Nicole I do agree with you, it is all about being informed and that is what we aim to do with http://www.oz-e-wahm.com is to inform others.
Thanks for sharing your story Anne.
Michelle, you poor thing, I hope it all comes together for you soon.
