Take Charge of your Website

In the competitive world of on-line business a good, effective web design is important.  For someone running an internet-based company, whether it is small or large, quick and easy access to be able to make changes to your website is of vital importance.  Big budget companies have their own IT division to make these changes for them, or are able to afford to employ a web-designer.

But what about the small businesses who don’t have that option?  You could always employ someone to create your website for you, but what about those changes you need?  Are you able to afford to pay your designer each and every time you need changes made?  Or will you “make do” with your website layout, even if it’s not working for you, until you can afford to make those changes?

It’s a tough question, but there are other options available.  With the increasing number of small internet-based business owners, many of whom do not have any technical knowledge in relation to programming for websites, software is becoming available that takes the question marks (and coding) out of building your own website, and makes it easy and achievable.

A simple internet search will show you an untold number of sites offering the software to be able to build and maintain your own website. Thousands of techno-phobic internet-based business owners have bitten the bullet and purchased (or in some cases downloaded for free) the software to be able to build their own site, and have been more than satisfied with the results.

Primarily, you need to have an idea of what you would like your finished website to look like.  Do your research, and know what it is that you like in a design, and what you don’t.  Look around at competitors’ sites or other sites with a similar market.  What do you like about them?  What do you dislike about them?  Then, depending on your software, it’s a case of dragging and dropping, or cutting and pasting your own information into the templates available.  And there are quite literally thousands of these!!

So what are the advantages of having control of your own website?
- You can make changes to content when you want to;
- You can add pages where and when you see fit;
- You don’t have to wait for a web technician to become available;
- It’s cost effective, all it costs to make changes is your time; and
- You can research and continually update your site, making it more attractive to search engine spiders.

The options really are endless, and if you’re going to branch into the world of internet-based business, it makes sense to have at least some control over your own “shopfront” – your website.
