5 Affiliate Marketing Mistakes To Avoid

Here you will find 5 affiliate marketing mistakes to avoid; sadly they’re ones that are often made by new affiliate marketers. You’ve spent hours researching your site’s theme, target market and building your site, you then throw up a few banners and links to a range of various products and sit back and wait for your affiliate sales and the commission cheques to start rolling in.  A few days later and you’ve made no sales and you think affiliate marketing doesn’t work and decide to throw in the towel.

When well researched and applied properly, affiliate marketing most certainly works  - make no mistake about that – in fact it really is a great way to make money online. However more often than not those new to affiliate marketing make many of the dreaded mistakes to cause your website to fail. Here are 5 affiliate marketing mistakes to avoid:

1/. Banner Central – Banners have been around for so long and often don’t even get noticed anymore these days. Try using test links in their place. Of course, this does ultimately depend on your subject and your target market, therefore you should always test both individually to determine what works best. More often than not you’ll find that using text links will be more beneficial than turning your website into banner central.

2/. Unrelated Products – Just because you’re an affiliate marketer and your aim is to sell products so that you can earn commission it doesn’t make any sense in offering products that are totally unrelated to your website. You would be surprised at the number of people who actually do this.  Make sure everything you offer is all related to the context of your site.  For example if you have a site about crafting and craft products don’t offer cooking gadgets and products, stick to what your website visitors are looking for.

3/. Missing your Target Market – This is the age old story with many new online businesses, whether they are affiliate marketers or not, missing your target market. Before starting any new business venture you should always know who your target market is.  You need to do your research and not just start a website simply because you like the products you are planning to sell. To become a super affiliate you’ll need to build a website which speaks directly to the market you are trying to attract and you’ll need to understand the needs of that specific market.  So who’s your target market?

4/. Hype – Please avoid it all costs.  People are so savvy these days and can smell hype a mile away and will be clicking away from your site as quickly as they can. If you review products on your website makes sure those reviews are honest and wherever possible take the time to actually use the product (or at least look into it) yourself so that you can genuinely speak about its features and benefits. When writing a review don’t forget to include the not so good sides of a product, remember there is no perfect product! Your website visitors will appreciate your honesty and grow to trust you.

5/. Not Tracking Sales – In order to know whether a program is worth you promoting or not, you’ll need to track how well it converts.  Try out different things in your promotions and track each one of them.

There you have it, 5 affiliate marketing mistakes to avoid. Revisit these and ensure you have them implemented on your affiliate marketing site. You’ll be well on your way to becoming the Super Affiliate that you dreamed of being.
